Student Writing on Trial

It is important to know that as students, there are rights and liberties afforded to protect the freedom of expression.

While it is not uncommon for a student’s writing to be critiqued, it is unusual for their writing to be put on trial.

However, examples of student’s writing that may be considered violent, satanic, mythical, can endure extreme forms of scrutiny including disciplinary or even legal ramifications.

As we celebrate our right to read this month, let us also not take for granted the freedom of expression.
